But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient (ENOUGH) for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

—2 Corinthians 12:9

Sling and stone: do those two words sound like weapons that can smite and slay? Not at all. But this was all David stepped out with, yet he brought down a giant. How did that happen?

You see, there is a way to flip the impossible into the possible.

The way is to see as God sees. Not after the physical forms, but into the inner room of every man.

In the days of physical battles, if you placed the pen in many Israelites’ palms to describe their Philistine opponents, they would eagerly grab it and paint you a picture of how:

“The Philistines stood on mountains. They had champions in their camps, the likes of Goliath and his brothers, standing six cubits and a span and more.

They had bronze helmets on their heads and were armed with coats of mail weighing five thousand shekels of bronze. They had bronze armor on their legs and a bronze javelin between their shoulders.

The staff of their spear was like a weaver’s beam, and their iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before them. And their words caused men to tremble and be dismayed.” (1 Samuel 17:3-8)

Those were not hypes. They were honest reports.

Now, we know the Philistines were not immortal. And every mortal, irrespective of their stature and physique, is weak. It is human to be ordinary.

So then, what made the Philistines extraordinary?

Tail along as I stalk them.

In a prior battle that happened in 1 Samuel 4, the Philistines had defeated the Israelites and seized the Ark of the God of Israel into their own camp.

And when we follow this tail to the end, what do we see? Look! The Philistines did not carry the Ark of God into their homes, or drop it on the street. They marched it right into the sacred temple of their own god, Dagon!

See? That was their secret!

The victorious Philistines were not built of height and armor. They were mere men too. But they drew strength from extraordinary spiritual influences. Like Dagon, their god.

No human can defeat another without the supply of a spirit. So the Israelites were not frightened by the Philistines alone. They were scared of the Philistines who fought with a supernatural supply from their god.

Am I insinuating that Dagon defeated God? How can I?

What I am saying is: weakness is natural, but strength is supernatural. So the real question is not how strong are you? Rather, the question is by which spirit are you running? Let that sink in.

All around us, we are surrounded by various spirits and spiritual supplies. But like the Israelites, many of us are not acknowledging the presence of God in our camps, nor are we reaching out to draw strength from Him.

Instead, we keep weighing ourselves from a physical viewpoint. And we picture ourselves as weak grasshoppers. Friend, this is a sure way to get defeated!

But remember what I said earlier? There is a way to flip the impossible into the possible. It is by seeing as God sees.

And here is how to do it. First, you must understand that God does not save by size, sword, spear, sling, or stone. This is what David knew and why he could declare to Goliath:

“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God… All this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

— 1 Samuel 17:45,47

David changed his viewpoint and you can do the same. Fix your gaze on Jesus. His weakness overpowers all human strength and His seeming foolishness outsmarts all earthly wisdom. The strength of wicked men, whether they be spirits, souls, or bodies, are under the feet of Jesus.

If you are weak, you are the kind Jesus seeks, as shown in our verse today. In fact, you are now eligible to draw from the more than enough spiritual supply in Christ Jesus, by which you can do all things.

When you arrive at your battleground, you should carry the consciousness of who is in you, just like David did. Because the battle is not yours. The battle belongs to the Lord.

Another thing you must do is gather yourself in the Lord. It does not matter if it’s a mob or storm gathering against you. You must not be afraid. Instead, you should search the scriptures to see what God has done and get an insight of what God can do. Because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So whatever He has done before, He can do it again.

Friend, you do not need the techniques or equipment of men. The Word of God is the assurance you need, and He has assured you that His word will never fall to the ground.

Therefore, by wearing the Word of God as your armor, you can turn weakness into strength.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you. Thank you for your ever-present help. I willingly ask for and receive your help through your Holy Spirit to overcome this (name it) before me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
